Snoring and sleep apnoea treatment
Sleep apnoea diagnostics
People suspected of OSA on the basis of case history and examination have to undergo polysomnography (PSG). This test registers the sleep phases (EEG), electrocardiography (EKG), eletro-oculogram (EOG), electromyogram (EMG), breathing movements of the chest and abdomen, the flow of the air through the nose and mouth, body position, oxygen saturation of blood (SaO2). Because of the high cost of the apparatus and the examination itself, people with a high probability of OSA undergo a screening test which registers a few parameters: SaO2, pulse, breathing movements of the chest or abdomen, body position, snoring sound, air flow through the nose and oral cavity. The test can be conducted in the patient’s house.
How we treat snoring and sleep apnoea
Radiosurgery is the most modern and the most precise intervention out of all available procedures. Low temperature, high frequency waves are directed into the place responsible for snoring. Thanks to this method it is possible to gain not only correct nasal patency, but also stiffening of the soft tissues in the throat so that they do not vibrate during breathing.
Thanks to this method snoring can be limited or eliminated completely. No other method of treatment is as delicate and precise as this one. The lasers used in the treatment employ the working of high temperature. Compared to laser treatment, radiosurgery is far more precise, less painful, and does not cause hard-healing burns.
The intervention is performed in ambulatory conditions, which means that soon after the procedure the patient can return to his/her daily life and responsibilities. There is no need of taking a leave at work.
The pain discomfort is minor, and healing lasts only a few days.
It is possible that the procedure will not eliminate snoring completely. In such case the interventions should be repeated until the symptoms clear up completely, or until reaching a state in which further interventions do not influence further limiting of snoring.
